2020 FRAGRANCE TRENDS
Perfume, like fashion, is cyclical. What was in fashion, goes out of fashion and ultimately comes back in again. We can map a decade by the perfumes worn in the same way we can by the clothes that were most popular. Think about it, the ’80s is as synonymous with stinky, syrupy white florals as it is shoulder pads, and the ‘90s were as clean and aquatic when it came to fragrance, as they were grungy in their fashions. The trends are there; it’s exciting to see what comes next and what will maybe return from the past.
At the beginning of 2019, I dug out my crystal ball and donned my best Mystic Meg wig to bring you my fragrance trend predictions. Some of them came true (label-free perfumery, savoury gourmands and sandalwoods), others didn’t, but I wanted to revisit the idea to see whether the latest launches could perhaps predict the fragrances we will see in 2020. So here we are, throwing back on that wig and gazing into the fragrant crystal ball. What’s that I see…
